Ubuntu 11.10 Release Key Features



Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) operating system is set to release on October 2011 according to Ubuntu Wiki Releases. Many Linux users are waiting for this release eagerly. Lets look at the key features to be implemented on the Oneiric Ocelot.

The key features to be included are:

1. New Desktop
A new experimental release of Compiz and Unity is to be included along with the new Alt+Tab switcher as in Windows.

2. Ubuntu Software Center
The Software Center will allow to edit or delete your own reviews, and it's significantly faster for “.deb” file installations. View of both the main category page and all subcategory pages is made smooth along with top ratings by users.

3. Gwibber
Gwibber the microblogging client will come with a new interface and improved performance using the most recent GNOME technologies.

Note: GNOME, meanwhile is updated to GNOME 3.2.

4. Mozilla Thunderbird

Mozilla Thunderbird will be the default email client for the new release, making it the end for Evolution, the long servant for Ubuntu email standard.

5. Linux Kernel 3.0
The most important of them all, the upgrade to version 3.0 (mainline Linux kernel) brings the updates for enhanced wireless chipset and wifi driver support as well as numerous config updates.
